Who Checks Up On People Self Isolating After Holiday?

Does anyone check if people who need to self isolate for 14 days after arriving back off holiday are actually doing it?

My husband knows of two people that recently came back from holiday that had a knock on the door to see if they were in.

Enforcement is carried out via random spot checks, with those in quarantine being told that they may be visited by public health officials at any time to ensure the rules are being kept to. Those who refuse to fill in the form are subject to a £100 fine, while the Border Force has the power to refuse entry to citizens from other countries who do not comply with the regulations.

Those who are caught breaching the rules of their self-isolation could face a fine of up to £1,000. Anyone who is found not to have provided accurate contact details – or does not update the form in the limited circumstances where they are allowed to move from one place of residence to another – they could be fined up to £3,200.

There's probably not enough officers to go round to everyone, but people might think twice about going out if they might be randomly selected for a visit

I think "half-arsed" is dignifying the approach somewhat.
"Not-at-all-arsed" would be closer to the mark.

Now that some local councils are using their Public Health staff to visit people the Track and Trace callers cannot get hold of, it would make sense to get them to to make some spot checks while they are out. No doubt that would be straightforward for officialdom

According to my SIL in Australia people can't self isolate at home they have to go where the government tell them

How many people that have returned to the UK have been found to have Covid?

And at what point would you suggest they test? Only at the very end of the 14 days would it be useful surely due to the incubation period?

So, back I come from Benidorm. I fill in my form as ordered. I go home directly as instructed. There's a knock on my door two days later. It's someone I don't like the look off so don't open it. What happens next?

Dunno.

I’ll tell you next week when I get back from Majorca (where the risk of Covid is significantly less than where I live - and where I live it’s very very low) and where I totally ignore the quarantine requirement.
