Wearing Face Covering

Why are we obliged to wear a face covering when food shopping, but staff are not?

I wear a covering because it's the law and I don't have a choice; so I put up with it on the train to work, and in Sainsburys (other supermarkets are available).

beyond that I don't need to visit cinemas, galleries, theme parks or other indoor events or attractions, nor do I need to eat out. all of these are meant to be enjoyable and they most certainly are not with a bit of soggy cloth welded to your face. I won't be doing any of these things, but not because i'm not confident.

Mushroom, I am also wearing one (a face covering, not a mask) wherever required. I think the plan is, that the majority of people will feel better knowing others are wearing them. I'm not convinced myself, but I don't know whether businesses etc are doing better since.

Checkout staff in our local Tesco wear plastic visors, not masks. Much more comfortable than masks.

The Chinese have a history of wearing masks in public.
Didnt help them (or the rest of the world) much this year.

Or burkhas, come to that... bame people don't seem to be doing much better- and we don't seem to have any extra or better requirements to cover.

I find all this wearing face nappies a bit ridiculous.
Shopper have to wear them but staff dont.
Taxi customers have to wear them but drivers dont.
Bus users have to wear them but bus drivers dont.
Etc.
Oriental countries have worn them for years but still suffered from covid

Its a nasty disease but face coverings (breathing in your own germs) is not the answer.

Nailit, I agree... but as I say, i don't believe this is about reducing the spread any longer. We are still asking for vulnerable people to shield, social distance (I think), using lockdown in areas where there are peaks... It really doesn't seem to be the aim any more.

When a poll was done on here a large majority supported the law on making them compulsory.
And yet the overwhelming number of comments seems to be from people who think it’s daft.
Have people changed their minds, are the silent majority silent or have I got the numbers wrong?
