does anyone worry, or refuse to answer sometimes, when someone asks for ways to break codes, or crack things open, claming to have forgotten their password or mislaid the key etc, that these are thieves or planning a robbery??

yes I do worry, no I don't answer. If others have and I am concerned, then I report. This is probably nannyism but better safe than someone else sorry
i tend to not answer these kind of questions, its all a bit too suspect! Even if it is innocent, you can never be too careful.

Hi All

Sorry to hijack the thread, but in regards to the Questions you mention, please Report any suspect posts.

We usually do, Ed.
One I remember in particular was someone who appeared to have problems and was asking about lethal doses of medicines. Agree totally with woofgang.

i remember one guy wanting to know how to cut through the wires of a security system - claiming it was for a practical joke!!

I'm sure they are all innocent enough questions.

By the way, does anyone know where joko lives, when they're most likely to be out, the code for the burglar alarm and where they keep all their valuables? It's for a homework question that I was debating with a mate in the pub for a practical joke.

;o)

Forgotten passwords with computers is a very common problem, so I'll help where I can with that. The methods I recommend need physical access to the computer and so are secure in the sense that password resets can't be done remotely.

Stolen computers will generally have their operating systems reinstalled so questions about password retrieval won't be asked.

i always wonder why people need to know what bank certain sort codes are for. I just cannot imagine any circumstance (maybe due to a limited imagination??) where you would either legitimately OR illagitimately have a sort code and need to know what bank its for - could anyone enlighten me?
