Instead of your liberal approach we should do the opposite. Handcuff them as they get off the boat and take them straight to a detention camp to be processed. Genuine Asylum seekers then given entry, with conditions the rest shipped back. Those that travel without papers to make things awkward stay in the camp.

Most of these people are effectively trafficked. They aren’t some evilly minded pioneering self seeking voyagers who have done a risk assessment and decided that on balance it’s worthwhile taking a risk.
One reason - probably the major one - why the numbers are up now is because they’ve been told that this is their last chance before Brexit. Complete nonsense of course but it illustrates the extent to which they are exploited.
