By nation I mean England. Further lockdown rules meaning gatherings of 》6 people to be banned inside or outside from Monday. My first thought was how can they give a weeks notice for this but so little notice for quarantine?

ymb, there are rules in places for workplaces, but let's not let true facts get in the way of Boris bashing.
"Behind all this though there is a genuine worry that a big spike in hospital cases and then deaths are coming our way soon- just as is happening now in places like France and Spain "

Can you point me to the death rate spike in Spain and France?
So what do you suggest YMB? Shut everything down? Or just let people do what they want?
"ymb, there are rules in places for workplaces, but let's not let true facts get in the way of Boris bashing."

There are rules in pubs too.

You are ignoring basic logic in your quest for scaremongering.
Carry on the way we are. Deaths are not rising.

Because of more testing the accuracy of the tests is very poor.
Easy. Spain was running at a handful per day. Now on 4th Sept the latest figure- 184 in one day
ymb //You are ignoring basic logic in your quest for scaremongering.//
I do not have any sort of quest and I am not scaremongering. It is Covidiots like you who are helping to spread this virus.
Can you give me a link, I cant find that.

And for France too please.
"It is Covidiots like you who are helping to spread this virus."

And here comes the name calling. Lost the argument have you mate.?

I'm off to do some work now. Have to mix with more than 8 on hte building site but hey ho your behind your sofa and ok.
At some point in all this the government is going to “lose the dressing room”.
It’s probably already well on the way to happening
I’d rather be classed as a Covidiot than a Covphobic.
More testing equates to greater detection but infection is not death and is unlikely to be. The permanently panic-stricken need to get that into their heads. This is ridiculous.
Naomi // but infection is not death//
The scientists have stated that they are expecting a number of hospital cases and deaths.
the measures are announced as having almost immediate effect, otherwise you get travel chaos

that's the wrong way round, ff. They were announced with almost immediate effect and we got travel chaos.

What I suggested was not announcing a later deadline, but announcing the same deadline earlier, to give more leeway for people to make return arrangements. Some might leave it to the last moment anyway, making it still chaotic, but the government couldn't be blamed.
//The scientists have stated that they are expecting a number of hospital cases and deaths. //

I don't doubt that, danny. A number of hospital cases and deaths occur whenever there's an outbreak of 'flu - but we don't stop the world for it.
Naomi, I don't think that you can compare Covid19 with flu. There are deaths from flu every year but not on the scale of this pandemic.
The increase in testing must have increased the positives, it's only logical. The current number of cases may be no more or even way less than they were 2 or 3 months ago. It's a very stressful time for everyone and nobody seems to know what they are doing. And calling people covidiots because they don't see it the same way as you is just downright rude. I've never taken such a dislike for a government as I do now, they are scrabbling around and changing their minds like headless chickens.
You're currently more likely to die from 'flu than you are Covid - the last numbers I saw, you were 6 times more likely.
Prudie // calling people covidiots because they don't see it the same way as you is just plain rude//
How is it rude?
