Uk Police Officer Shot Dead

How or Why. I can understand police officers facing firearms on the streets but inside a custody suite is beyond belief.How did he get a firearm inside the nick? These are certainly questions to be asked. Always search your prisoner!

The word is that he was taken back to the station for the purpose of searching which you can do without 'arrest' if someone refuses to be searched on the street.
Many times I have seen prisoners lunge at custody officers, especially in the old days when all they had between them and the detainee was a simple desk.

All the early reports said it was a woman officer that was shot....now the reports are saying it is a male officer. What is it coming to when that "fact" is even in doubt?

At the old Paddington Green we had a charge room table made of solid oak. It was enormous about 5' wide and 8' long.We had a bench seat bolted to the wall.
If the prisoner,once searched,became a little aggressive or bolshy the table was pushed by gaoler,arresting officer and Station Sergeant ( No custody officers/suites then) right up to the perps chest. They were wedged in and couldn't move that table on their own.

This how poor policing is. Not one senior officer could put out a statement explaining who, how, where etc etc.

Family have to be informed and other such basic steps taken before details will be released TL.

Questions need to be asked and heads roll since clearly there was a severe error or a catalogue of errors.

I'll refrain from commenting further, apart from to say I hope the person that did it dies, until we know who the perpetrator is and why he would do such a thing.

Sounds like this Officer has been let down badly - tragic.

Wondered why he was not in handcuffs but I suppose they could have just been removed. My heart goes out to his family and his comrades but I also feel for the officer that arrested him.

It is normal procedure to remove handcuffs once the prisoner is in the custody suite, unless he is violent and there is no mention of this in the article.

I have taken many prisoners into custody suites but we never used handcuffs. If we had trouble with a prisoner we would get police assistance. I assume his handcuffs must have been removed and he got hold of his gun wherever it was. No doubt more details will be forthcoming.

Can't see any mention of that, but if he was it makes the neglect of searching him even more heinous.Both the arresting officer and the custody officer should be held to account.
