Covid Uni Panic...why?!
Headline
NHS Lothian confirmed that 120 students have tested positive at Edinburgh Napier University - (the student population is approx 20,000)
another five or more at Queen Margaret University and the University of Edinburgh combined. (Combined student population approx 26,000
At the University of Liverpool, the tally of COVID-19 cases has risen from 87 to 108 (student population approx 35,000)
Also covid doesn’t appear to affect the younger folk as badly (obviously that’s a generalisation I know).
Am a too simplistic (or plain simple lol!) to think this is not headline worthy?

a 'Statutory Instrument' - not an Act - is created on Sunday 27th Sept 2020 is Laid before Parliament on 28th Sept 2020 and becomes enforceable at midnight on 28th Sept 2020... big Fines for breaches if this goes through.

For a judge you just misjudged things again IMO. We din't have corona a year ago so yes peopel would of been shocked. But now Coronas here most peopel support these things for now and can see its common sense to reduce contact. Your life might be turned upside down by having to eat or drink an our earlier but most are adapting and seeing the bigger pitcher a sthey realise freinds dying would be a bigger inconvenience. Good job you dont live in Wales or Scotland, youd say it was like living in North Korea

How do you know?
For the purposes of this debate I'm not arguing over whether the measures are right or wrong, nor am I considering how many people support them and how many do not. When this all kicked off seven months ago I understood that quick action was necessary. I didn't necessarily agree with all of it but I could see the urgency. However, since then Parliament has had no input to all the various measures that have been imposed. A typical example of the results of this is the 10pm curfew. If the matter had been debated it might, just might, have become apparent that it may cause more problems than it solves. As it was, it was imposed by diktat as one of the many knee jerk reactions that have taken place and the results were plain for all to see last weekend. I agree it is sensible to reduce contact as far as practically possible, but not at the expense of everything else. But that said, that measure has achieved precisely the opposite in may places.
I don't think I ever mentioned my world being turned upside down by having to eat or drink earlier and that's unsurprising because in fact it makes scarcely any difference to me (though I'm getting used to having my views misrepresented by one or two here on AB).
It would be sad (rather than inconvenient) to lose friends to this disease and I do know because in fact I've lost two. Hopefully none of my other friends were among the 13 who died from Covid yesterday. However, there were about 1,900 other deaths from all causes so I'm far more concerned that my friends were not among that other 99.3%. That would be especially so if they died because they could not be properly treated whilst the NHS concentrates its efforts on the 0.7% who died from the virus.

Judge...You may find this interesting. It is a long read so beyond most experts on here, and particularly interesting when you reach the "false positive" conundrum and if and where the figures are/aren't factored in. I am beginning to ask myself why? Why are we being duped? Not just in the UK, but all across the supposedly free World.

//A wonder what you think the NHS should do less off for these Corona sufferers.//
What a strange question to ask. Of course I don't think that. But I do believe that patients suffering from the large number of other equally lethal and unpleasant conditions should receive what is often life-saving treatment. There is no doubt that this is not happening as it should at present. People are being denied cancer tests and treatment; cardiovascular disease is being left unaddressed; people were even extracting their own teeth when dentists were off-limits. What sort of a country treats its sick people like this in order to prioritise a disease that is currently the cause of less than 2% of daily deaths? And don't even think of "going private." The government has requisitioned almost all private health facilities - virtually none of which has been used. Basically, those without Covid need not apply. And it's a bloody disgrace.

Thanks Togo. I'll give it a scan.

And I have - only a scan, mind. I'll dig a little deeper. But one paragraph stood out for me and Dr Yeadon explained my position far more succinctly then I ever could:
"I am now resolutely against further interventions in what I have become convinced is a fruitless attempt to ‘control the virus’. We are, in my opinion – shared by others, some of whom are well placed to assess the situation – closer to the end of the pandemic in terms of deaths, than we are to its middle. I believe we should provide the best protection we can for any vulnerable people, and otherwise cautiously get on with our lives."

You haven't answered my point atall judge. You say we are priorytising the Corvid desease and we should'nt be. It stand's to reason then that you want us to depriorytise it . So what would that actualy mean. Not treating Corona patients then? Making them wait a few week's ? Sending them to carehomes?
Ahh, one doctor. Dose he know more that all the Sage one's , witty, Valance, WHO, Hilary Jones. There was somone called proffessor speegelhat or something on radio 4 that said all this false posative stuff where someone got excited was completely misunderstood with wrong end of the stick being grasp'd and was misused by some social media. He showed how Julia Hartley brewer got it completely wrong twice in an intaview. Proffessor said best treat it as a red hering.

It doesn't stand to reason at all. Of course Covid patients should receive treatment. But so should sufferers of all other lethal and painful conditions (many of which, you should note, are claiming far more lives than Covid). At present large sections of the NHS are at a standstill. In my local hospital four out of five wards are out of use. So-called "elective" surgery (you know, for example where people "elect" to have a major operation to replace their knee joint because they cannot walk) have been suspended for seven months. Cancer treatment for many patients has been suspended midstream and no doubt a number of them have died as a result. This is not as a result of "prioritising" Covid patients; it is a result of treating the relatively few of them as necessary but virtually closing the service to anybody suffering from anything else.
