The difference is, Trump not only has deep pockets, he also has the backing of enough right-wing supporters to give hm the backing he needs.
Ms Markle would, by definition, be a Democrat, and their track record with female candidates is not impressive - they won't go down that route again any time soon.

There's only ever been one woman standing for president, and that was last time round so there isn't really a record to steer clear of.

Well if you believe some of the folk on here, Kamala Harris is part of a dastardly plan to sneak a woman - with an "interesting" background moreover - into the White House.
My point is indeed that the history of women candidates is low key to say the least, that was one reason I mentioned Palin. But that won't, I am sure, have any bearing on the future.
