Just heard on the 6pm Radio 2 news that trick or treating, Diwali, bonfire night and Remembrance Sunday have all been cancelled in the north west of England due to Covid 19. Anyone able to elaborate on this, please?

indeed.sadly its too late...I know I bang on about this but if you are affected by fireworks and haven't yet signed and shared....please.....
Apart from anything else, our emerghency services will have enough on their hands without dealing with misuse of fireworks https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/319891
T or T could do with permanent cancelling. I see no legitimate reason to cancel the rest though.
^ So the emergency services having enough on their hands at this awful time, without having to deal with the misuse of fireworks as well, not legitimate enough for you OG??
one of my neighbours holds the british and commonwealth record for shortest time between buying a firework ( regulated by law ) and blowing his fingers off

three hours - - - fhild said he found it in the street and played with it in his room ....
sozza - if you can buy fireworks from 9 am on X then his finger had gone by midday ( same day)
o god will carol singing go?
yes please
Misuse of stuff is a continual risk. This awful time is no exception, and such overreaction is not a legitimate reason.

As we're only a month away from bonfire night, there will no doubt be plenty who have already stocked up on fireworks.
Fireworks will still be available on the black market.
When Oliver Cromwell went power mad, he only banned Christmas.
We are now a multi-faith nation, so the megalomaniacs leading us today have gone for the full gamut and banned christian, jewish, hindu and muslim celebrations.

Not content with that, the control freaks at No.10 have also banned frivolous pleasures like halloween, bonfire night and commemoration events.

They are extinguishing all hope. I fear like Cromwell, they will be shortlived.
i have searched and searched and can't find any celbrations banned although the covid rules will apply of course. Has anybody got a PROPER link please?
Woofy it looks to me as if your link is out of date as the government responded to it on 13 Aug 2020. Maybe not one for this year.
Jourdain you say your dog is upset by fireworks, please consider giving Melatonin, try just 1 x 1mg tablet. Works for many dogs I know including my own. Here's link:
https://www.biovea.net/uk/productlist/results?KW=melatonin&FiltersObject=%7B%22SortValue%22:%7B%7D,%22PageSize%22:%2224%22,%22CompareProducts%22:%5B%5D,%22Brands%22:%7B%7D,%22FormValues%22:%7B%7D,%22PriceRanges%22:%7B%7D,%22Categories%22:%5B%5D,%22objects%22:%5B%5D%7D
Organised firework displays may not be happening, but fireworks have been going off for the past 2 weeks where I live.
Oh Yes you can bet on it there will be people letting earth shattering bangers off in their back gardens around 2am over the next few weeks. Without any warning of course.
Organised and safe firework displays were encouraged to prevent accidents at home bonfires that used to overwhelm A&E and cost the NHS a lot of money.
Thoughtless, dim or even drunk people playing with large fires and explosives is a bad combination.
I guess this year, we are going back to that.
Lb no, that is the correct link to this years petition you can tell by the number of signatures. The "gov.t has responded thing" is just what they put up if they have dealt with a similar petition when the current one tops out the 10,000 that requires a gov.t response.
Sunk PUBLIC events that draw crowds have been cancelled. That is not the same as Cromwell....but you knew that didn't you.
PS in other circumstances I would agree about the public vs private event thing. Well publicised time limited events are much easier to manage in terms of scared people, livestock and pets. I can vouch for melatonin as a very helpful suggestion. Sadly my older dogs need more than this now and I have had to progress to a prescription sedative for my remaining old boy. One of the few comforts about losing his brother earlier this year was that he wouldn't have to suffer the firework "season" this year.
OK thanks Woofy, signed.
