....And They Wonder Why They Are Being Locked Down!

There seems to be this widespread idea that in city centres all pubs and bars kick out at the same time. They don't. Some close by midnight but many continue into the early hours. This means a continual trickle of people leaving when they run out of money/can no longer stand/are fed up with the company they are with/need to get home to bed to get up in the morning...

The problem is TTT there will be an 'inquest'.
god people dont really put their shoulder to the wheel and think now what will I say after I crock all this up?
I fear that will show the numbers were deliberately withheld.
um been said before - the figures come from the ONS and they are very sensitive to being accused of bias... I wd say this was VERY unlikely

Oh, and once one's actions have lost public respect, then it's quite likely one won't be listened to. The Tories got their thumping majority with the help of areas who normally vote Labour but who felt Labour were causing issues so the Tories had to be given a chance. These lockdowns are not going to help get a further term next GE.
That's not quite true, JD -- I made the same mistake myself a few weeks/months ago, but the FTPA actually specifies (Section 1(3)) that the election will be held on "the first Thursday in May in the fifth calendar year following that in which the polling day for the previous parliamentary general election fell". So it's May 2024.
Perhaps, Naomi, although there's also a question of whether local lockdowns dragged out over months is better than one short, sharp shock of a lockdown.
It's hard to see how the current approach is working in any sense: it seems to be struggling to control the spread of Covid-19, but also stifles any hope of an economic recovery.

I was meaning perhaps in terms of the "we can only hope that the electorate remember..." part, although that probably didn't come across.
It will depend on how effective a "circuit-breaker" lockdown is. If you provide the necessary support then businesses can cope, and if it is effective in slowing the spread again then it avoids a more prolonged effect in future. Bearing in mind that hospitalisations and deaths are rising, it's difficult to see how we can avoid taking more severe action forever anyway.

This is what their own Mayor thinks about it.' The City has been shamed'

dave50 - why the hell do you keep blaming the elderly?? What's it got to do with them what Boris decides?? Do you not have any elderly relatives you care about, or do you not realise that you WILL be elderly yourself one day?? Seems to me you think they should all just go away and die. What a nasty, nasty person you really are...
