All technology can be and has been abused.
The whole of social media is a big problem. Thing is TTT no one forces anyone to go on it. You use it you realise someone will abuse it. Its like idiots on here using personal photos of themselves and their children as avatars, not realising the consequences.

right APG, no one is forced on but human stupidity being what it is,they end up on it and this sort of thing is the result.
Twitter is the distribution method, not the tool to create the fakes.
You want to ban Photoshop 32 years too late.
A bit like blaming Royal Mail for poison pen letters.
Totally agree APG.

//A bit like blaming Royal Mail for poison pen letters.//

Hardly, how many people wrote thousands of letters to different people continually - which is what you can do with these tools of the devil.

This type of social media needs looking at. More and more disinformation is passed down on it especially during political times like an election (and on both sides). In addition it is a hotbed for grooming, influencing self harm and no end of things any half decent society should control.

It is a difficult one as you potentially will be accused of tampering with free speech, but for some things it does need doing, these companies need reigning in. So does Google.
...or Bryant & May for arson.
No you don't blame Bryant and May for arson - but if you play with fire then you should realise flames will result.
I still find it astonishing that people use social media to complain about social media :)
I know you say that AB is not as big as FB or twitter, but I think that's a silly argument. Everything you write here is available to everyone with a computer or smartphone in the word. Just because the whole world doesn't look doesn't mean they cant.
FB and twitter are anonymous like this site if you want them to be
Twitface are not just the distributers though as the do interfere in the process banning what they dont like even if legal.

When they become as big an influential they need some control, as does the press. Not total but enough to ensure impartiality.

AB is not social media nobs, well not remotely like Twitface anyway.
yet even at such a relatively small scale as here people moan about the moderation occurring
it's not like it, but then again, twitter is not like face book either
ps AB IS social media

nobs: "I know you say that AB is not as big as FB or twitter, but I think that's a silly argument. Everything you write here is available to everyone with a computer or smartphone in the word." - yes but a) its anonymous and b) we aint got pictures all over it.
a quick (evil) google tells me the following:
Social media is computer-based technology that facilitates the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and information through the building of virtual networks and communities. ... Users engage with social media via computer, tablet or smartphone via web-based software or web application
you may not have pictures, but other people do FB and twitter are also anomymous if you want them to be
Question Author
ok so yes it is technically but to me it's a Q&A site, we have non of the features of Twitface etc. We only know what we deduce from each others posts. I wouldn't know anyone on AB if I fell over them.
I wouldn't know anyone on twitter if I fell over them :)
//Its like idiots on here using personal photos of themselves and their children as avatars//
Get a grip!
There are millions upon millions of photos of people and their kids on social media and the web in general.
this has happened on here some 15 or more years ago long before Twitter was invented. Why would the existence or not if Twitter make a difference?
