Presumably because the vaccine is supposed to protect you from infection rather than being a cure for those who already have the virus

right, thanks, I see so it's inoculating first then testing to see if the person is indeed immune by giving them the virus. My hat off to those who volunteer for that!

The thing is, Tora, the individuals who are part of the trial stand only a tiny, tiny chance of being seriously impacted by the virus. They have taken the pragmatic view that the rewards (they are being paid £4k each) outweigh the risks (probably by a tidy margin). It's something other people in the UK (and most of elsewhere) are not being permitted to do in the forlorn hope that if nobody catches the disease they cannot spread it to those who are most vulnerable.

Its not the same tho. Am pretty sure that after getting the corona dose they wont be aloud to mix with others and risk infecting there grans and more vunerables like me and you untill they have been checked out and given the all clear . There young and healthy a guess tho and may never even get it so its a well worth it for £4 if your right about that

in short other readers you need to know they are infected and when so you have to do a challenge expt.

You COULD vaccinate a million people and give sugar to another million and then wait 000 12 wks and see who has it and who hasnt
but in short it isnt as good

I would imagine that in order to properly gauge the success of any vaccine, they need to start with test subjects that are all the same age, level of health, and who have been exposed to the virus in a controlled way.

You see if they volunteer - - then are they self selecting a group that is likely to be survivors or at least not react badly to the challenge and/or react differently to the normal pop? (*)

I can hardly credit that someone who firmly and honestly believes that Trump's great boodiful warl kept out the Chinese Death Virus from america can ask such jejune questions

(*) so volunteers as such may not be the way forward - there is a volunteer group -" just a little sooner" I think

so yes I would have it - but I have a terrible medical history

the last patient from the first wave - discharged from Alphaville no 1 Hospital ( infectious) has just croaked at age 48 from long covid
so if asked I probably would (" he was never right after" said the widow yesterday)

and the difficulty is? the group that wants to be paid is self-selecting(*) and so may not reflect the population

awful price paid ( pun intended ) for paying for blood donations in America in the seventies ( do they still do so?)

That's from 9th March, danny. And you will note that it says 'Volunteers will be infected with *a form of* coronavirus'

Well Andrew Lloyd Webber was being interviewed on TV a few weeks back, and he put himself forward for the trials, and has been part of for the last 2 months, at the time of the interview. He certainly didn't do it for the money, well not £4000, just his way of trying to get the shows back on the road, he said.
