I do wonder if we will ever be rid of this virus. What would it take to stop the young ones being so irresponsible?

I'm afraid it's not just the young ones being irresponsible. As to how to stop it, who knows? I do wonder if some of the young ones realise how serious it can be for older members of their family. Do children watch the news? Have they been told about the virus in detail so they know the implications?

Surely the responsibility is also on the older members of their family? If they know they are out doing this then dont mix with them and if they live under your roof then put your ruddy foot down. Although many look like students to me.
And it is not just those going out that pose a problem. My mother does not see one of my daughters because she works in a care home. It's a shame but they have worked round it and its no different to this.

The alcohol virus in this country is bigger than the covid one, close the pubs for good, and you might stand a chance of controlling the covid one. Most pubs are going to the wall anyhow, whether it be now or later. Drink is available from the supermarket for those that want it to consume at home, less trouble on the streets/ less crime. Its a win win all round. Yes its a shame for the ones that lose their job in this industry but we have to do something, and this is a good start in my book.

In the same way we will not prevent young people behaving like young people do. The legislation that has been introduced is unenforceable in the main. There may be a few fixed penalties issued here and there but that's about it. In my area many people are behaving as if the regulations do not exist. They are in and out each other's houses and I see parties of four or six dining in restaurants when they are clearly not all from the same household.
Before introducing stricter measures they would do better to enforce the ones that are currently in force because those who choose to comply do so and those who do not comply do not.

It's clear that you have no idea (a) the contribution to the economy the hospitality sector makes and (b) what pubs are for.

we don't know about immunity yet. (What if it turned out to work like malaria, which can be worse if you catch it a second time?) We don't know all about transmission either. We do know some people, at least, have long Covid that hangs around for months; but it hasn't yet hung around long enough for us to know if it might actually linger for years.
I think I'd be very wary even if I was a quarter of my current age.

Obviousley tho Teacake a dont agree with closing pubs forever but we after nip this in the bud now & over maybe 3+ months or the lockdowns of other busines's will after go on for longer. A feel sorry for the pubs but we can cope without for a few months, some will close forever and we need to support workers and pub owners but some will come back stronger. Short term pain for long term gain as my manager says when he makes are life misrable with more changes
NJ, your only concern has been the economy, its easy to say don't do this or that or the economy will suffer, but unless you have anything constructive to help control a virus your input is useless. Pull a plan apart by all means, but only if you have better to offer. On and off lock downs don't work?) they do, the last one reduced the infection rate, ( and the pubs were closed) like I said before buying time, all the time. Kicking the can down the road is thinking and planning time, while I was kicking mine, I decided that shutting the pubs would be a good start, after all its no use me turning up at the pub to get a broken leg fixed, or the weekly shop.
