Does he realise that outside of the London centric circles people have no choice but to drive?

This smacks of "Princess nut nut" liberal green agenda, it's certainly not a Tory one. I cant see it going down too well up North or in the Shires.

Your words on a post concerning converting to electric vehicles " - yes but petrol/diesel are on the way out, any new taxation will have to be on electric cars as well. There is very little alternative to road pricing when most cars are electric. Show me some of the "thousands of alternatives".

Labour need to get a grip fast to reel him in but for far too long given golden opportunities to seize the initiative,they have been their own worst enemies.

I agree 100% with Tora in his first post. A massive plan for public transport is needed. Unless cable-less charging is feasible in 10 years time there are hundreds of thousands of homes which, without trailing cables over pavements of down the side of a high rise block, wont be able to charge their vehicles at home.

I think 10 years is ambitious.

Watch out for people holding on to their cars for much longer than they used to in 10 years time. Well, until garages start shutting down or converting to 90% electric.

Yeah I think the whole charging without a driveway problem is a major hurdle to electric cars en masse. Kerbside charging posts will be one answer but who's going to install those by the million?

'Transporting' 3 empty seats is little extra in addition when you're already committed to transporting the one your sitting in. That cost is already sunk.

It's fair enough that a country should have a decent comprehensive public transport system but one needs to accept that whatever is created is unlikely to have the convenience of one's own transport. You can't load up the boot of a bus or train at your front gate and go directly to where you need to be. Also you are obliged to share it with others. It will always be a back up for most.

Two obvious ones off the top of my head.

a) Road fund licence. Stop giving folk discounts for small vehicles, set it to a level that covers what's needed.

Or much much better

b) Stop mugging drivers, accept that the tax collected that way is simply unfair and spread the costs of infastructure more evenly over the whole population using other taxes.

In this day and age it's noticeable that Christmas dinner takes longer to cook on en electric oven due to power demand. My old uncle was a chargehand at the old North Yelland power station and had to up the generators between about 1000 and 1500hrs to cope. Looks like we will all be eating salad for christmas dinner post 2030 because Boris expects to surround the UK with wind turbines to provide the extra power required. Tilting at bloody windmills more like.
