I Love Christmas, I've Said As Much Several Times But......i'm Not Sure This Is A Good Move

For the sake of a few days would it not be better to stay in your own home for the Christmas period? I realise shops and businesses are struggling but this I fear will cause even a longer lockdown in January at the behest of people's mental health

Restrictions cannot just be lifted for the festive season then re-introduced afterwards. Not only would it render the present lockdown irrelevant, it would also undermine people's trust in the government's handling of the pandemic. A trust that is wavering on a daily basis.
Not, it'll be fine.
Mr Covid, he knows ALL about Christmas, and will make sure he's definitely NOT infected around that time. He'll probably hide in a Christmas Tree somewhere, just for the duration.
Then, when it's safe to come out, he'll come back and infect you all.
WHAT AN IDIOTIC IDEA!
Lock-down is Lock-down.
Who thought that several household could mingle THAT week, but not THIS week?
Utter lunacy.

I think you are correct but I also think that the government is looking at it from the point of view of not criminalising millions. They know that people have had enough and will simply ignore it anyway so I think the strengthening of the tier rules is the stick and the few days over xmas is the carrot.
I know there's many Adults that adore Xmas and look forward to it, me couldn't care two hoots, I've always looked up on it being for kids, and I made sure my two enjoyed themselves when they were very young. Over the years its become more for the adults, so may be this year just for once, (forget it Adults) if you have young kids make sure they enjoy themselves and bring a bit of normality back into their lives, because some have been scared witless this year.
I think it's a brilliant move! Everybody without fail who I talk to when out dog walking say that no matter what Boris says (before this announcement) they are going to see family NO MATTER WHAT ! I think the only reason Boris has done it is because he knows the majority of people (not the doom mongers on here of course) will see their families at Christmas anyway and it cannot possibly be policed, so he had no option! I will be seeing mine as per usual and having a damn good time, all this nonsense has gone on far too long. Never had you down as a scaremonger Bobbie. And sqad you can come on with your LOL LOL LOL's as much as you flamin' well like - I DON'T CARE …….
amazingly I agree with TTT. If you know that people won't do what is best then you have to work out what they will go along with. I used to work with people who were left with quite bad disabilities after stroke. We would get then to a certain level of independence but the maintenance was up to them and their families on the basis of use it or lose it . We knew that they wouldn't spend their days at home struggling with things like dressing themselves or walking as much as they were supported to do in hospital so we would work out individual regimes that gave them and their families a good chance to keep the rehab activities going and at the same time give them enough quality of life so they would keep the exercise up. Same with the Covid precautions.
