Debehams is topical in the news

Is it likely that Selfridges could follow suit (I have no info to suggest they are in any difficulties presently )

However don't they operate on the same business model i.e. concessions within a department store ?

Department stores have been falling out of favour for years. Birmingham has lost Beatties, Grey’s, Lewis’s (not John Lewis) and John Lewis, Owen Owen and others.

There is a House Of Fraser in Birmingham
There is one here in Plymouth also.
House of Fraser has 47 outlets.
The House of Fraser in Birmingham will close when the council gives permission for redevelopment. When I was in there last December only half the floors were open to the public, no Santa’s grotto, no food hall, no restaurant, no toy department. No customers.
Selfridges has a heck of a lot of tourist traffic (or it did, before covid) whereas Debenhams doesn`t. I went to a local Debenhams today and I can see why it is dying. The clothes were dire - most of them looked like they had been in there since the 1980s and the rest wouldn`t have looked out of place on Ru Paul's Drag Race.
BHS has already gone from Oxford St, now Debenhams. That still leaves John Lewis, Selfridges, two M&S and two Primarks (which always seem to be jammed but perhaps less so now). On the other hand, some day it will get Crossrail bringing customrs in.
