According to that link it was a very lucky thing that he didn't kill an innocent road user - he was certainly driving recklessly and dangerously.
He claimed that the thief lost control of the bike. Hardly surprising as he was being chased and had been rammed five times. It's the right sentence.

I can't justify my view but on first reading sentence far too harsh if you're interested. Petty crime like this (stealing of property) can be devastating to innocents.

10 years seems a bit harsh.
Someone steals your bike and you get 10 years.
Yes, the perpetrator should be punished but he did overreact.

The reason I asked is it that the majority of of comments on line are along the lines of. They got what they deserved. Another low life out of action. Etc etc. I do feel uncomfortable with this attitude to a loss of life. But I can also see why some people, maybe victims of criminal theft should feel that way.

When you have been the victim of a crime (any crime) it's understandable to think what you'd like to do to the perpetrator - to act it out is another matter entirely.

Saw a programme on TV last night following a "HART" ambulance team attending a few incidents. One of these involved a speeding car hitting a pedestrian crossing the road and killing him. The driver was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving - he got 3 1/2 years in prison. Just saying.

Perhaps it is time we had more"vigilantes"and less coppers.The police force nowadays seem more to be a section of the social work department rather than a crime solving and detection department of government.The cops prefer to go after the easy targets rather than the real criminals.
