Looks like I wasn't the first to describe the EUSSR as such:
TGL referred to the "politburo in Brussels" - PMSL.
Ok my tin hat is on........

The Euro was indeed rushed into being at the insistence of the French. The Berlin wall had been demolished in late 1989 and the French were utterly petrified that a united Germany and the subsequent industrial capacity would dominate the EUSSR or at the least cause the value of the Franc to find it's true level, which was about half what it was trading for. They...

O, that The Great Lady were still with us.
Who disagreed?

Not Blair, not Brown, not Cameron.

Obviously Black Wednesday and the ERM debacle was a major embarrassment to the Conservative Party, but that that was a long time ago.

Cameron wasn't even an MP at the time. He was only elected in 2001.

who disagreed? well the millions of Europhiles like you for a start me old china. You'd have joined wouldn't you?
George Soros, a very philanthropic jew made £billions out of the Tories ERM Omnishambles.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, he funded leftwing causes all over the UK. Bless him.
Question Author
why don't you start another thread if you want to talk about other BS you made up.
TTT, the first part is true....
Question Author
sunk, would you answer a straight question: Should we have joined the Euro?
// Europhiles like you, You'd have joined wouldn't you? //

No I wouldn’t. We never achieved the criteria for joining. (Ok, loads of countries cheated (Portugal, Spain Greece) but they later regretted it.). But every Prime Minister Red or Blue declined, which was the right decision.
They were looking at Sterling on one flank and the Deutschmark on the other. Look back, and realise that the Euro was cooked up to save the French from bankruptcy. Instead every other EUSSR slave Nation has paid the price for them(Greece, Italy, anyone) and we had people in the UK, who were right up to the last minute and, including our Prime Ministers and senior MPs who wanted us to commit slow suicide with them. A ponzi scheme no better than a chain letter when judged by any accurate and sensible fiscal analysis.
Question Author
most of the countries that joined didn't reach the criteria, though I think we actually would have but that's not what I asked, would you have joined the Euro if you could?
Togo,
A European currency was first muted at the League of Nations in 1929. We got it in 1999, which is hardly a rush.
France and the UK were vehemently again German Unification (I forget why) so that delayed the currency.
It has been successful, and is now a major currecy.
The Sun echoed the Great Lady succinctly with its headline:

Up Yours, Delors!
// But every Prime Minister declined to join [the €uro], which was the right decision. //

No.we did right never to join, John Major would have took us in, but lost in 1997.
//But every Prime Minister Red or Blue declined, which was the right decision.//

It's very true that that nice Mr Blair declined to join. But only because he thought he would be unable to win a referendum on the issue:

Wasn’t about the €uro currency?

Remind us again ... who is we?
sunk.

Have a guess by who...

In office

New Judge,

There was never any need to have a referendum about joining the €uro, you are just falling for Blairs bullsh*t.
We never had a referendum to join the EEC or the ERM.
Blair could have made it happen if he was convinced.
"Looks like I wasn't the first to describe the EUSSR as such"

the term was in use at least six years before you joined as TORATORATORA.
