Again, it's all coming far too late. If Johnson is announcing nationwide school closures, he should have done so a couple of weeks ago at least. He also still owes an apology to those schools who tried to be proactive, for threatening legal action (via Williamson, who should have been sacked five times by now). If it's a more general stay-at-home order, then that, too, should have been announced weeks ago -- and will be longer than it could have been, precisely because of the refusal to take the necessary action in October and then in December.
No Government would wish to be responsible for making such orders, and in that sense at least I can understand the hesitation. But it's the same hesitation, over and over. It's the same mistake, over and over. The refusal to do any more than the bare minimum has merely dragged this pain out.
It's a catastrophic failure. Johnson and the Government owe us all a thousand apologies.
