Trump has spent the last two months telling the world that the election was stolen from him; he spent the six months or more before that telling the world that the election *would be* stolen; and he spent most of the last few years, including long before his presidency, telling the world that every other media source was fake news and the "enemy of the people".
After a while, people are going to take him seriously. A few hours before the riot, he spoke to a crowd, telling them that,
"we're going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue... we’re going to the Capitol and we’re going to try and give...our Republicans, the weak ones... we’re going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country."
No. He hasn't just "behaved badly". For a moment, he was trying to force a coup. Incidentally, even in that short snippet he lied to the crowds: note the use of "we" from a man who promptly disappeared and watched the ensuing chaos on TV in his living room.

Pmsl. He wasn't of course. He was sitting in the Whitehouse laughing his ass off. Just how dumb do these people have to be to not realise that he couldn't give a tish about anyone including them.

I'm sure that Trump was attempting to get teh result overturned in the event that he didn't win, but I am also sure that he has failed. Taking the Supreme Court as an example, Trump (with help from McConnell) forced through a rapid nomination just before the election, and Trump at least made no secret that he thought this would help him in any post-election litigation. And yet what happened when Trump lackeys tried to present a case before the Court? They threw it out without even hearing it, all of Trump's own nominees refusing to grant an audience; and the only two Justices who would have heard the case also made it clear that they would only have done so out of a sense of obligation rather than genuine interest.
We mustn't overestimate Trump. He isn't even interested in power per se. He's only interested in winning, without any idea of what really to do with that. Case in point, all the time playing golf was his own time wasted that he could have been using for further self-aggrandisement or dubious executive orders (or even anything objectively useful).
In that sense, Trump's reached the end of the road in terms of stealing the Presidency. I'm not sure what he will do in the remaining two weeks, and I still maintain that he shouldn't even be allowed those two weeks in office, but it's a mistake to think that he's some kind of mastermind. He's a sort of dumber version of Heath Ledger's joker: a man without a plan who just loves watching the world burn, but who forgot to bring enough matches.
