Why do we have to wait till next week for inbound travellers to be Covid tested at airports? Why wasn’t this done months ago? It’s obvious how the South African strain got here. And when next week? Saturday?? Get a move on Boris, he doesn’t seem to learn does he.

As I see it the UK has been lax since the beginning of COVID in quarantining travellers returning
Question Author
Not only travellers returning, but travellers in general. Lax in everything.
// It’s obvious how the South African strain got here. //

The UK and the South African strain are similar but not the same. It wasn’t transmitted by anyone coming from South Africa.

The UK strain was identified in a Cambridge hospital in a patient who had an immunity illness and contracted the disease months ago. The patient died after 101 days.
The theory is the virus was constantly mutating within this patient over 101 days and this how the strain evolved and surfaced in the UK.
// government figures are pressing for British nationals and those resident in the UK to be exempt. //

D’uh!

Happening next Wednesday or Thursday apparently. Ridiculous.
I didn't understand why all border entry was not stopped in April last year, I don't understand why it has not remained stopped from then to now, and I absolutely don't understand why such a basic protection measure has been delayed at all.
