They are paid to protect us, but not at the risk of endangering themselves.

they are, but not necessarily at the risk of their own lives. I expect they'll now be the ones sent to check out house parties and fine people. Like teachers (though certainly less than NHS workers) they're finding themselves in the front line in the Covid war.

Being spat at is a common occurrence for police officers - they would prefer to be thumped on the nose than spat on. There are too many nasty people about

They are paid to uphold law and order and keep the Queen's peace and if there weren't so many gonks wandering about not keeping to the guidelines, the Police Officers wouldn't have to put themselves in harms way.

For god's sake protect the ones first who are doing their best to protect us. Policemen can't observe the distance rules if they are trying to arrest a violent person. They don't say --'' please come over here and let me arrest you''.I have three family members in the Police Force and they are absolutely fed up with trying to deal with the rule breakers. Plus in some areas they are very short staffed because of colleagues having to isolate. Give them the vaccine now.

well, I think soldiers are the ones whose jobs involve protecting us at the risk of their own lives. Police are here to keep the peace as jack says, and to investigate crimes. That should be a lot lower level of responsibility. They've only recently begun to carry arms; arms have been part of the soldier's job forever.

As jno says, police officers and soldiers have different roles to perform in protecting us.
