What the hell have I just read?? If a dog bit someone, it would be put down without hesitation and yet human filth like these two torture and murder an obviously vulnerable woman and are protected by the 'system'! Why?? They will always be scum, it's too late for them and yet people will be falling over themselves to make sure they are looked after and protected. Makes me sick!!! And andy, just a heads up, if you copy and paste this and then give your considered (and unwanted) opinion on my comments, you are totally wasting your time, I won't be reading them.
Whilst reserving all my sympathy for the vidtim and her family, I hope that whatever personality problems these two girls have can be addressed and corrected during their incarceration so that when they leave prison they can, perhaps, give something back to society.
I would hope to think that they could turn out to be more Robert Thompson than Jon Venables.
I wonder what had happened in their young lives that they even thought of behaving like this in the first place?
They will need anonymity to protect themselves from the vigilantes who would otherwise seek to wreak their own righteous indignation should their identities be discovered.

Principally, because we don't 'put down' humans, it's not the way society operates.

That is actually an assessment that none of us can make, because people respond to treatment, and they may well be successfully treated to a level where they can be release - we will have to wait and see.

As I have pointed out previously - it's not all about you - posts are there for everyone to read and comment on if they wish - although of course you won't know that because you won't have read this anyway.

As I have opined many times, there is a list a mile long of things that my taxes are spent on that I strongly object to - most of them further up the list than paying to keep mentally ill people safe and in treatment.

I think your stats are wrong - since mental illness is a direct root cause of murder - it's not the act of a sane rational person - then it follows that any and all murderers must be part of the one in four that you refer to.

Fair enough - but as I have mentioned previously, the law does not frame itself around emotional reaction, completely understandable as that is - and society is all the better for that.

That appears to be conditional on a circumstance where Jesus would need to be here with us.
But according to your belief system, Jesus is here with us, always and everywhere, so he must have seen this dreadful crime, and allowed it to go ahead anyway.
So Jesus 'expecting' that his love would save us from this sort of situation appears to be falling woefully short.

Savages!! Beating the poor woman senseless, taking breaks and leaving her at one point for two hours before returning to carry on with their horrific activities. Laughing and joking, taking selfies. Now their lawyers are wanting 'lifelong anonymity' for them. Anyone with the slightest amount of sympathy for them should search their own souls and save that sympathy for the poor woman tortured to death. I don't agree with torture and that is why I would give them a quick lethal injection. Get rid of the vermin.

A civilised society can only function if its laws are created dispassionately, and implemented in the same way - the alternative is simply vigilantism.
It means that when a policeman pulls me over for speeding a couple of miles over the limit, I can expect some words of advice, and being sent on my way, not beaten within an inch of my life and left bleeding on the roadside because the officer doesn't like Fiats.

That assumes that by protecting the women from vigilante justice, the lawyers concerned simply don't care what happened to their victim, and I believe that is a position that does not stand.
It's not an 'either / or' situation- you sympathise with the victim or the criminals.
As I have pointed out - if the women are released having been deemed to return to society and to have paid their debt to that society, it is not reasonable to leave them to fall prey to vigilante 'justice', which is actually nothing near real justice, just the mad violent retribution of people who believe that their view of punishment is superior to everyone else's., including the law of the land.
That assumes that by protecting the women from vigilante justice, the lawyers concerned simply don't care what happened to their victim, and I believe that is a position that does not stand.

No words for the crime itself. It's sickening. I'm not sure whether they will ever be released or into psychiatric care, it seems unlikely they will just be left to their own devices.
