Surely the fire brigade would have had to approve it for the building to get a fire certificate.

Many of the people in the'chain' would have relied heavily of the BBA Certificate stating ".......that the flammable panels "may be regarded" as meeting a British fire performance standard known as Class 0."
I know when I am choosing products a BBA Certificate, and the wording it carries, are sufficient for me to specify it.

The entire tragedy ought to have been preventable at *some point* but quite where that was is still uncertain.

The Fire Brigade may well have placed too much reliance on the BBA Certificate.
They don't necessarily carry out their own fire tests they, too, rely upon the trade literature provided.

Surely that's the point of centralised certification? People who buy and install certificated kit rely on the fact that an approved body has reviewed it and issued the certificate.

Has there been a massive over reaction after the grenfell fire? Are all the other tower blocks with this cladding really at risk to the same extent?

the government are going to put in billions to rectify these matters, so yes i guess that there are many blocks that need to be stripped of their cladding and redone in fire proof materials - this was on a BBC news link just now.
