And it's goodnight from the Jim and Naomi show, with guest star Pixie. Tune in tomorrow for another enthralling edition.

Sadly there is a bit more homophobia in bame communities because people in them tend to be more religious. It must surely have occurred to her that a high proportion of creatives and theatre people are gay/bi... hardly surprising they would not take kindly to her views especially after being given such a prominent role. How sad.
Another unfortante by-product of instant communication - the ability to state your abhorrent views to the world at large, coupled with the arrogance not to consider for a moment that your views might just be ignorant biogted piffle.
And so the price is paid, the lady will remain convinced that she is right, with God on her side, and the world will move on to the next piece of nonsense.

it just goes to show that historical postings on twitface et al can come back to haunt people. I mean how many unpalatable comments are out there from young and foolish people that have long since realised what a wally they were will none the less be brought back and visited on them in later life to gawd knows what effect. I mean when I said or did something stupid in my early life it wasn't recorded for eternity to be dug up and used against me years later. Gone are the days when a crass remark would be heard by a few drunks in a pub, now days they are out there for the world to see for ever.
ginge, it's a long time since I saw the film but my recollection is that the lesbian element was played down to the point of being invisible. (The book was mroe explicit.)
You can read the script here if you have the time

So I can understand an actress saying "Hang on, you want me to play her as gay?"

Yes, this is the problem, ttt. I have no idea whether her views have changed at all, since. But I'm also a little suspicious of another actor deciding to bring attention to it many years later.
If you saw an old post, which was pretty much forgotten a long time ago and decided it was hurtful, offensive and would upset a lot of people. Why would you republicise it?

nothing wrong with actors picking and choosing roles according to whether they want to play them, jim, and in particular if they're asked to do something that's not in the script. I don't have much sympathy with this one, given that as TrevorthePug says they offered to pay her anyway and she refused. But I don't think objecting to script changes is "refusing to do her job properly".
