Click on the video to see the engine on fire
it's in situations like that where pilots really earn their crust. yes the computer does most of the flying nowadays, but few (if any) computers can cope with a fast-changing emergency.
I don`t know if its a Trent engine but there have been cases of them virtually blowing themselves to bits. Something to do with the thrust reverser.
the engines on this airframe are PW4000s.
247.......ooooh! I love it when you talk dirty -;)
There's nothing like a bit of reverse thrust!

I watch a lot of Aircrash Investigations .

In a lot of instances of engine explosions , parts from the engine damages parts of the airframe of the aircraft , causing crashes

Thank goodness in this case thus did not seem to have happened or if there was damage it was minimal

Remember that the wings are full of fuel tanks.

Lucky escape.
can we have less terrifying spectacular prose
what about

as the plane plummeted towards earth, the passengers screamed and the women clutched their heaving bazzoomz. Prepare to meet your maker was the message over the intercom - not many will survive this ! Nursing mothers who packed their little ones in the luggage space were told the impact was likely to render their efforts ...
planes are supposed to be flyable with one engine

they can fly alright on one engine and they've been known to glide down safely with no engines but if the engine fire should get out of hand and catch the fuel tank which is in the wing, good night Vienna.
Would you fancy boarding the replacement aircraft, especially if it was a similar vintage model, having experienced the earlier emergency landing?
Apparently a similar thing occurred in 2018 to the same airline, model and Pratt & Whitney engine.
