A good example of sexism by a misogynist. Clearly the intention was not to be funny, but to reinforce the falsehood that women aren’t as good as men at anything. As with all fake news, there will be plenty who will be taken in by the lies. It is not a non story, but it is one that is often repeated - successful woman belittled by untrue sniping and jealousy.
The OP is just as worthy of discussion as all the fake news we have talked about in the last 5 years. Just because it isn’t true does not mean we should ignore it. We should call out the lies, and promote the truth.

Unfortunately it is not just in the muslim world. I doubt the UK or anywhere else has many female sea captains. The article quoted 2% and that was worldwide.

I'm not sure why anyone would be obsessed with how many women are sea captains. I strongly suspect that is correlates to the number of female seapersons and maybe women just dont want to be away from home for that length of time. I know I sure wouldn't want to be.

women didn't go to sea once upon a time,
unless they sailed with their husbands the Captain for instance. But now that's changed, women serve in the Royal Navy, train to be senior officers, so there's nothing to say in years to come you won't hear more of women as Captains in either RN or other maritime vessels
