Germany has run a current account surplus of between 6% and 9% for at least fifteen years. It is constantly being reminded that a reduction is necessary for the stability of the eurozone.
That said, I cannot see why the EU should be keen on welcoming Scotland to its fold (unless it is to destabilise the UK and blame the instability on Brexit). There is nothing in it for the EU or its current members. Scotland will require considerable support from the EU to remain financially viable (and to replace the support it receives from the UK Exchequer) and quite why they should want to do that is a mystery.

And yet with arrogance of breathtaking proportions, Sturgeon believes Scotland should be allowed automatic entry and feels they'd meaningfully contribute.
She's wrong on both counts of course, but that means nothing to those who slavishly support her with their only wish to be independent of England, with nary a thought that Scotland would be in penury without England's largesse, a largesse that allows them to provide freebies not available to their southern neighbours.
The woman's utterly delusional, and is a danger to Scotland's future.

Well they will have to cut their cloth that is without doubt.
Problem is the wee un doesn't want to give any awkward details on things like that.
Whilst the EU may well think it is a wizard wheeze to get Scotland to join the EU I do wonder about the other members. It could be tipping point for one or two of them so I am not so sure the EU would take on a complete basket case.
