perhaps if Anne or Maggie, JimF are about they can give their thoughts on this, i know that we have more English on this site seemingly but really interested to know what you think..
TTT bombarded folk with questions yesterday, perhaps they are weary of it.
Question Author
Perhaps, not sure that many replied to be fair, perhaps they don't like TTT's tone of post.
I’m Scottish. I have nothing else to add .
Question Author
ok thanks. at least you are being honest.
I was born and lived all of my life in England, I class myself as English first, British second and European third, so I can see nothing wrong in Gordon Brown saying what he did, I would expect anyone from Scotland, Wales, England or Ireland to feel the same.
Question Author
he didn't say that though he said he's more Scottish than British, so in other words being British doesn't count quite so much, or that's how it reads to me. I am just curious...
I understand what he’s saying. If I’m abroad and asked my nationality I never say British. I say English. I’m
English first, British second.
Question Author
on forms doesn't it often say white British, doesn't that lump us all in the same boat - i say im English, British on forms.
You don’t acknowledge being British, anneasquith, part of the whole country?
I would say English. Although British appears as a nationality of official forms etc. Britain isn't a country as such and you can't really say United Kingdomish.
Question Author
that's partly my point about Gordon Brown, one is Scottish, British surely
Question Author
dave no you can't admittedly.
naomi. //If I’m abroad and asked my nationality I never say British. I say English.//

Quite! Though I would say (truthfully) that I have a British passport.

I think the 'Tebbit test' kicks in here: there are no British, cricket, football or rugby teams.
Question Author
perhaps its just the word "more" that throws me a bit.
I think that I am proud to be Scottish, my brother is too - but he lives in England and the kids are (crossbreeds isn't the polite word) but they are also part Irish too right but they are.

Gordon Brown is a smart guy but he has limited communication skills. I think that he comes across badly. He is seemingly a really nice, kind guy in real life. Maybe the dour Scot in him hides that.

Question Author
i have never liked him i confess, perhaps he is a kind hearted soul but he does come across as a dour individual.
Question Author
Naomi, would you say you were more English than British? I know i wouldn't.
Yes, emmie, I would say I’m more English than British.
