Indian Covid Variant Spread Could Delay Easing Of Restrictions, Why?

This was on the news this morning. I don't understand why. All the elderly and vulnerable have had the vaccine that prevents serious illness even if they do get infected, the young don't suffer from it, so what is the problem? I find it very frustrating that nobody seems to question this.

We need to all get back to normal and get the economy going so more people dont die with "caused by COVID".

It's all very well those on here sat with nowhere to go and fat pensions telling us to lockdown. Many people are really struggling now, both mentally and physically with poverty.

They are talking about possibly delaying the 21st June restrictions still in place, next week’s are still going ahead. I would far rather they did not take away social distancing and masks if the Indian variant is more transmissible as they do not know how safe the jabs are with this new variant. Lockdowns are a thing of the past if we take things carefully.

Thanks BurleyShirley. You have said more or less exactly what I was going to say. Why is it that some daft people think mostpeople in my age group are in receipt of huge pensions? Many more had no pension schemes back in the day and our mortgage interest rose to about 15% during the 8Os for a long time. Saving for old age made it impossible for a lot of us to afford s private pension. Get your facts straight!!

Youngmaf's point was not a comment on the size of pensions, as such. It was to illustrate that, in the main, the people shouting loudest for a continuation of restrictions are those whose incomes have not been affected by Covid. Those wishing to remain locked up and masked up after restrictions have been relaxed are perfectly free to do so.

Well perhaps NJ the wording was misleading 'Nowhere to go' and 'fat pensions' indicates age to most of our older ABers. What Dave has posted better reflects the situation. The wealthy of any age won't be sitting about with nowhere to go!!

Looks like davebro @ 7.11 gave the best common sense answer on this thread, were a lot on the media are just hell bent on the next easing of restrictions, without considering what the India variant will bring if anything. Like all variants this no doubt is being tested against the vaccine we have had, and no doubt that's not done overnight. It can also be the case that its no more dangerous, its just that India give little respect to the way covid can spread, and lack of vaccines given.
