seems incredible to me that wild shots like that can only hit one person and that she wasn't the intended target, yet she gets shot in the head, why no one else...

Is that you speculating @ 0927, Emmie? The police forensics team will be able to ascertain the direction in which the bullets were fired and will know where the injured party was at the time. If all the bullets were in a 1 inch grouping around where her head would have been, then she was the intended target. However, if the bullets have a scatter-gun effect, she was just unlucky.

I suspect it was dark, they piled in fired off some shots (may not have been intending to actually shoot someone just scare them) but as they are not trained in guns the bullets would fly anywhere. Quite possible one of them saw what had happened and they all pegged it fast.

I'm sure the Police will get to the bottom of it. Catching them will be the problem, unfortunately the Police will not get a huge amount of cooperation as I suspect the gang they were targeting are now after them to meat out their 'justice'.

As a student teacher in Bradford, late 60s, I was in a very multi-cultural school and was asking the Head about any problems that created. His words, We have children of Indian origin who fight according to their familes' villages back in India, all the Indian children will get together to fight the children of Pakistani origin, both the Indian and Pakistani children will get together to fight the West Indians and the West Indians will fight anyone!!

strange that i didn't see any fighting between West Indians back in the day, say around the early 70's. All the ones i knew and that included the b/f, were fairly laid back individuals, who sole purpose was to have a good time at weekends, a spliff and a large can of red stripe was the order of the day. how times change.
