Bobbi, mutations happen at random but they're more likely to occur in places where more people have the virus. So keeping the death toll down is a big thing but it isn't the only thing. It's also important to keep the number of infections down.

//I’m still wearing mine but I have asthma so can’t really afford to get ill//
Then it's important you should realise, smow, that wearing a face covering does not protect the wearer from infection. The theory goes that it protects others around the wearer but most reliable studies undertaken before this all kicked off suggested otherwise.

I've forgotten where this started, but there is a protest campaign. You are asked to send a clean mask, on which is written 'I'm out.', to Boris at 10 Downing St.. We've done it.
I can see there being lockdown after lockdown, delay after delay. First it was 'Vaccinate the vulnerable O.60s and we can relax the rules'. Yesterday I heard something to the effect that when 70% of the country is vaccinated we'll be OK. Then today I'm hearing the first bleatings about booster jabs for the vulnerable being needed. There will always be a reason.
Bobbi's right, enough is enough. We have to learn to live with it, like 'flu. More people died from 'flu recently than 'with Covid'. There will be mutations, viruses mutate and we cope with them, that's why 'flu jabs are annual.

bobbinwales, I would like to know who these tens or hundreds of thousands of people are, that you think are going to die? Nearly all the vulnerable people have been vaccinated (along with most of the adult population). Why are lockdowns still needed, all that happens is whilst we all hide infections drop, we are allowed to live our lives again, infections rise. It is a never ending merry go round, one that we need to get off, now. I will ask this question again, because no one that keeps on saying we may need to lockdown in the future, or it is too early to open up fully, has yet to answer it. How many people have to die, that don't have Covid, just to stop the now very few that do die from Covid? We have a world beating vaccination program, and we are not allowed to reap the benefits of it, that is wrong.
// Bobbi, mutations happen at random//
no spread - no mutation basically
spready spready then lots of chances to mutate
first observation of Boris retreating from - "I wd rather see bodies pile in the street than lock down again...."
presumably as the scientists trilled " I dont think you realise Prime Minister it is possible that exactly that will happen!"
keeping the death toll down is a big thing.... vaccine has completely unexpectedly unlinked cases to high death rate .....
Alot on the internet on this to keep you off the streets
Covid being mRNA is inherently unstable BUT has a proof reading ( corrects mistakes) which keeps the mutation rate down BUT also allows the LENGTH of rna to be much longer than a normal rna virus blah blah blah it goes on and on for hours
