Why Not Just Cancel Females Altogether? (Part Ii - The Truth)

Earlier this week someone reacted to the news that the term 'Head Girl' was not going to be used any more at St Paul's Girls school.

If anyone felt that the school was wrong, the truth is now out.

1. Head of School was the original title. They're reverting back to it.
2. The 17 and 18 year olds wanted a title that was more age-appropriate. They were polled on this.

Should we be concerned that newspapers are now frequently writing stories to fit a narrative...to rile up their readers?

The fact that the pupils wanted it, or at least a majority did, should -- but won't -- put paid to the outrage.

...and the fact that this is the original role title, so you'd think so, but unfortunately outrage is the fuel that powers newspapers and social media.

Nothing new, media has always put a slant on their stories paying scant attention to the complete picture. The article headings in some magazines are laughable as long as you take them at face value. One of my favourites, a'quote' from Ruth Langsford, something like "I don't trust Eamonn". Turned out she didnt trust him to load the washing machinne properly.

all of this information was already in naomi24's original link sp1814... and was pointed out. It did nothing to stop the outrage, because being outraged was more important than being honest. It was dismissed with a wave of the hand.

Yes, it was ever thus, but I do believe this tendency has increased exponentially since people began sourcing their news online [not that I believe that news online is a Bad Thing per se].

The less discerning reader enjoys having their prejudices reinforced. 'But I saw it in the Daily Mail!' splutter splutter harrumph ah that's better etc.

It's normally the case with right-wing fixations... "they've banned Christmas", the bendy bananas rule, the so-called "war on woke" (used to be called "PC gone mad" its the same thing)... they are manufactured controversies and all you have to do is wait before the facts come out... Unfortunately in that waiting period the deceptions can cause absolute havoc.

I see no ‘outrage’ but the word is being bandied about quite liberally here all in an effort to silence those who object to society. kowtowing to yet another PC requirement - and it shows. Must try harder.

Perhaps it's more prevalent now because newspapers (or rather their online counterparts) need to get eyes on their sites in order to keep up advertising rates.

It's called 'click bait'...where a headline only has a passing relationship with the truth in the story.

They gave the pupils the choice of which name they wanted for the role. That's hardly "kowtowing to another PC requirement". This really is a complete non-story, blown up by the press to be something it isn't.

Your 12.10 answer was spot on. They actually gave the student the choice and it's explained that a) this is reverting to the original name and 17/18 year olds didn't want the word 'girl' in the title.

Difficult to hear that over the sound of huffing and puffing.

And thank you for pointing out the typo. I too couldn't work it out.
