Apologies Derek has been sentenced for George murder - had a few gins having a bad time at the moment

Good. A convicted murderer receives jail sentence. Sounds like justice to me.
Keith Ellison's words seem the closest to anything I could say.

//Ellison: 'Not justice, but accountability'

"My hope for our country is that this moment gives us pause," says Minnesota's Attorney General Keith Ellison after Chauvin's sentencing.

This is one of the longest sentences "a former police officer has ever received" for deadly force, he says in a press conference.

"Today's sentencing is not justice, but it is another moment of real accountability on the road to justice."//
The nature of Floyd’s death was horrific, but I’m uneasy with the conviction, simply because I struggle to believe Chauvin meant to kill him.

I’m especially uneasy with the default position of many that it was racially motivated; literally the only person who knows whether there was racist intent is Chauvin, and he’s hardly likely to admit it.

Personally I don't think the racial aspect of it is relevant. I just think if you kneel on someones neck until they die then you've murdered them.
With good behaviour it would seem he will serve 15 years. He will be free when he is 60 years old .
Damn savage, should never see the light of day again!
Jno, if ever a post was worthy of BA, it's that one.
00.27 jno is just repeating what 3t usually says. Damn savage? Is he really?
Do all murder victims' extended families get $millions in compensation? Just askin.
Davebro, any family of a victim can claim a Bereavement award. I have no idea of the average payout though. I guess it depends of the crime.
davebro - // tragedy //

Can you narrow that down a little?

Is the tragedy George Floyd's murder, the conviction, the sentence, all of the above, none of the above?
Deskdiary - // The nature of Floyd’s death was horrific, but I’m uneasy with the conviction, simply because I struggle to believe Chauvin meant to kill him. //

The judge didn;t stuggle - if he had believed that the murder was deliberate, he would have given Chavin the maximum forty years.

//I’m especially uneasy with the default position of many that it was racially motivated; literally the only person who knows whether there was racist intent is Chauvin, and he’s hardly likely to admit it. //

I don't think the default position is that it was racially notivated.

I believe the position is that Chavin's use of excess force was racially motivated, but that he did not intend Floyd to die.

No.

In this case, the city gave the award to fend of a potential civil law suit against the city, which would probably have resulted in a far higher payout if it had gone to court and been heard.
Deskdiary, // The nature of Floyd’s death was horrific, but I’m uneasy with the conviction, simply because I struggle to believe Chauvin meant to kill him. //

I agree with you.

I agree with you. //

As I pointed out, I believe that if the judge had believed that the murder was intentinal, he would have awarded the maximum sentence of forty years.

The fact that he handed down just over half that demonstrates, in my view, that he did not believe that death was the intended outcome of the action.
So you said, AH.
