Daily cases rising - but the vast majority by far recover - and that's what tends to be forgotten when figures are being bandied around. It's all very well for those on guaranteed incomes to carry on hiding but the rest have to earn a living to pay their mortgages and feed their families. If they don't who's going to keep them? Those on guaranteed incomes? I doubt...
The pandemic is over. At least in this country anyway. Look at the figures for the last 2 months re hospitalisations and deaths, then tell me there's a pandemic. We're all being had, but some people enjoy being had. Some people love being vigilantes. But it's over people. It's over. Gone. It is a late pandemic. It's fallen off it's perch. It is no more.
I'm optimistic that the worst is behind us, but it's a fool who makes such a definite prediction about the progress of a virus that has already proven resilient, infectious, and deadly many times over. Come back again in a year and see if your confidence was worth it, but, for now, better still to be at least a little cautious.
Firstly Jim, I'm not a fool. So don't go there please. Secondly, I am not making a prediction, I'm stating a fact. Look at the figures for the last two months, when there was fear about another wave from Covid 21. It hasn't happened. I think some people enjoy being cautious and afraid and are hoping the State Control will carry on forever.
Quite correct dave, it would indeed stop the pandemic, not this year, not next year...........but the pandemic would stop.
The price for that victory? Millions of deaths , a medical and public health armageddon.
But, that option was always available to us, right from the beginning..........but was never the popular option to the majority.
The virus has killed the weakest people. PHE said, over 6 months ago, that 95% of deaths were people who had one, or a combination of, Heart Disease, Dementia or Type 1 Diabetes. The govt failed to protect them and State Control did nothing to prevent this country having the highest death rate in the world. Why do some people think they are the only ones who showed any caution? Anyway, the caution showed was pointless. It didn't work. The only thing that's stopped the virus is the vaccine. Everything else was useless and ineffective.
There is a clue in the name : pandemic.
It affects the whole world.
And as long as it’s rife in other countries with the possibility of further variants than its still a pandemic.
The last two months have seen hospitalisations rising only slowly, it is true, but are you so sure that this will definitely continue through the next few months, 10CS? What about Winter? What if a new variant emerges that is resistant enough to vaccines that it breaks through the current protections?
Some people appear to mis-define the word "pandemic" as ichkeria says. The vaccines have not halted the pandemic but have managed to reduce the number of serious cases requiring hospitalization and, thankfully, the number of deaths.
10CS writes ‘ State Control did nothing to prevent this country having the highest death rate in the world’ but yet seems to support the OPs suggestion of doing away with all restrictions and completely opening up in the midst of rising figures. Strange.
What if a new variant emerges that is resistant enough to vaccines
This is the main worry, the more it spreads the more it will mutate, These might be harmless but virus's survive and adapt by finding victims so they can thrive, so theres a good chance one will beat the vaccinne
What if this, what if that. The economy cannot cope with another lockdown, ever. Peoples jobs and livelihoods are at stake, especially the young, ironically those least affected by the virus.
Yes. It is always best if you have a problem to bury your head in the sand. Pretend it isn’t there, and most of all forget about the 130,000 who have died already.
We all know that now we have had 2 jabs we are invincible, and some have even developed a Superpower.
//The economy cannot cope with another lockdown, ever.//
Lockdown finished a while ago and most restrictions end i within a few weeks.
But thats nothing to do with your suggestion in your OP of turning a blind eye
