I appreciate that some people are addicted to football, but to say to parents that their kids don't have to be in school until 10:30 so they are not tired from watching the football is unbelievable.
Apart from the fact that some parents will have to arrange childcare, what does this teach adults and children about responsibility?
The school day is much shorter than it used to be and children need to catch up with their learning enough as it is already. Where do we stop? It seems to me that football is the only sport to get excited about.
On top of that, the scenes of supporters climbing on top of double decker buses shows how much respect some have for the property of others. I agree they are in the minority, but you don't tend to see it in other sports.
I also wonder how many will turn up for work on Monday morning, hungover, late or both. If I were an employer I would not be pleased.

10C; "unlike Italy who have done it in style." Do you mean their hard fought 1-0 win over Wales? Or their 0-0 draw with mighty Austria? Maybe you mean their escape against a much better Spain side who couldn't take penalties?
Granted, the Ukraine game aside, England haven't really played flowing football, but we were certainly more convincing against the Danes than Italy were against the Spaniards. In my most humble opinion, of course.

yeah bang on ken, people like 10cs just hate England and critcise everything. Some eejit the other day claimed Southgate was "abysmal" - well he's got us to the first major final in half a century so If that's "abysmal" give me abysmal. I just don't know what they are watching or what's going through their loaves. Italy have stumbled and cheated their way to the final. We may not have been lighting up the Beautiful game but I'd rather win ugly than lose pretty any day.
I couldnt care less about it all, and there is no way I am watching a bunch of millionaires kneeling to a Marxist organisation.
As for the letting kids come in late I really cant agree with that. Just what exactly is it teaching them? I remember sleeping on Victoria station one night and still making it into work on time. I know many others who would not let a good night be an excuse for tardiness the following day.

Italy beat Austria 2-1. And although they only beat Wales 1-0 with a much changed side it was a very one-sided game.
Apart from that they’ve demolished Switzerland (who eliminated the World Champions) and Turkey.
Their game with Spain was tight but possibly the game of the tournament in terms of footballing quality. They’ve lost one of their key players in Spinazzola, but they’re in unbeaten in 33 games and haven’t even trailed in any match since 2019.

again YMB, i dont think you have school age children (or if you do they are in private schools?) so i can't see how schools allowing children to come in 1.5 hrs late will possibly affect you, but if it does, you can be on the step, like electrochem, grumbling and showing your virtue at 8:30. That isn't the point at all. The reason it should not happen is that it gives children the impression that if there is a football match on they can pitch up late for school or work. Quite frankly the notion that children should be excused lateness because of a football match the previous day (which will be over by about 10pm anyway) is preposterous. The lesson to be learned is that if you go to bed late and get up the next day feeling rotten, then think about whether you will go to bed late next time a flimsy excuse arises.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the opinions of the people whinging about England having a successful football team. They clearly care more about being able to go to the pub in peace, or the inconvenience of having to throw out an unwanted newspaper supplement, than they do about the general happiness of a large majority of the country. I'm sure they'll all be delighted if Italy win tomorrow and will be quick to crow on about it, but there's one thing they need to remember...

I might even watch that to see how many goalkeepers resist the urge to cheat by failing to remain in contact with the goal line when the kick is taken. But as far as tomorrow goes I am overcome with utter indifference.
What I am not indifferent to is the mass hysteria that seems to be getting worse by the minute. My newspaper today contained no less than thirty-seven pages devoted to the match. I think there was a table which showed what time and how frequently each player went to the toilet (with a separate column for #1s and #2s). All credit to the journalists for managing to fill their rags with such drivel.
Mrs NJ and I have found a nice place to spend tomorrow evening where we know there will definitely be no mention of the match. I'll no doubt find out the result on Monday morning. All that's left then will be either a week of celebrations or a week of post-mortems, and a few months later the "honours" bestowed upon those involved.
