Among the rows and rows of guns on display were a couple of small rifles, all pink and covered with pictures of flowers, obviously aimed (no pun intended) at young girls. Start 'em young...
toy shops were full of toy guns for boys, and dolls for girls, when I was young. Not necessarily aimed at 8-year-olds as cute Lego guns might seem to be, but they were bought for young lads of all ages. Back in the days when Westerns were still a major movie genre (and when many parents had recently been to war), nobody thought any the worse of them.
For all that, I don't think we boomers grew up especially trigger-happy.
