Wolf Whistling To Be Made Illegal!?
Have just heard on the news on the radio that they are trying to make it illegal for a man to wolf whistle at a woman!! Apparently its ‘against a woman’s human rights’. Don’t think I’ve ever heard anything so stupid in my life! I would blush and take it as a compliment. Your thoughts??

So from that I guess men should never approach a woman (chat up) in case they feel uncomfortable. After all no one actually knows someone is uncomfortable unless they say.
Guess that will reduce the population, are you in the employ of Mr Gates by any chance?

Ymb, if you are making women feel uncomfortable by "chatting them up"- I'm impressed you managed to get a wife! :-)))
The difference is, say you are a women, your car breaks down and you end up walking alone, in the dark, some way home. If you heard wolf-whistles and/or comments... would you honestly smile and wave, or in real life, put your head down and walk a bit faster?
I've already said, there is context, times and places- but the point is, they neither know, nor care, whether you feel complimented, offended, or scared out of your wits. It's irrelevant.
That, I think, is where the dislike is.

The link mamya provides seems to be a call for evidence. Perhaps an updated link, available below, makes clearer what the Government intends to do:

I haven't read it, but couldn't find any specific reference to whistling. Closest might be "unwanted sexual behaviour/comments".

This gives women the choice.
If they are happy to be ogled, wolf whistled, told to "cheer up", have upskirtt photos taken of them (etc) then they're free to carry on as normal.
For those who don't like this form of attention from strangers, there is now legal recourse.
Just think of this way - if you went round to your mate's house and commented on the attractiveness (or otherwise) of his wife and daughter, he might get a smack in the face.
Why then is it acceptable to do it to strangers?

TTT insomuch they are unwanted attention catcalling, wolf whistling, up-skirtingall fall under the same umbrella.
Also - to clarify, it's not only wolf whistling that can be treated as a crime (as opposed to being illegal), but also catcalling.
Catcalling is:
the act of shouting harassing and often sexually suggestive, threatening, or derisive comments at someone publicly
Would you support *this* being made a criminal offence?

The headline is 'wolf whistling', but the meat of the proposed act covers a range of harassments.
It's meant to plug holes in current legislation.
