A sixteen year old was killed by a hit and run driver speeding on the wrong side of the road.
A tragedy for the family but why was he riding at 1.20am!? Surely he should have been home in bed at this time
Yes, he may well have been guilty of other crimes. But the death, may not have been his fault. I just disagree with the general idea, that whoever comes off worst, is the "victim" always. If I jumped in front of a train, I would be the perpetrator, not the victim.
pixie, yes, I've just noticed that the claim in the OP that the driver was on the wrong side of the road isn't made in the BBC report. It may be calmck has seen a more detailed report somewhere else. I don't know.
Would a drug dealer really draw attention to himself by riding an illegal escooter? That just gives the police a reason to stop, search and confiscate the scooter.
I wasn't laying the blame on the victim just wondering why, unless he was coming home from work etc, any 16 year old would be out at that time of night. The driver of the car was obviously at error being on the wrong side of the road, speeding and drunk. Maybe I am old fashioned and believe that a 16 year old should be in bed at that time except in exceptional circumstances
I don't agree that violent crime is going down, Pixie.
Also increasing is the sickening behaviour of so many young folk now. I may be being coloured by recent events here in this backwater where we've never had a problem with litter or vandalism despite having a fairly large number of teens and young adults.
Two days ago our annual "sculpture in the park" exhibition was destroyed and burned in the early hours by visitors who would usually be getting drunk on the Costa del Somewhere.
When you go from the occasional naughty child in a class to retiring earlier than planned because you have half a class of hooligans with ignorant parents you no longer want to cope with it's getting bad, Pixie.
As for area....well no....it's the behaviour of the louts now visiting our country and they didn't appear to come from deprived areas.
