Thanks for the BA, Gulliver. Whilst some people on here seem to revel in the way Thatcher dealt with the unions, and are justifying what she did, I think it was reaction politics from her. The Tories had no plan to follow up all the devastation that their action was causing and knew that hardship would follow. They did nothing to relieve that hardship and as one consequence, we had riots that followed.
However, for all of that, I do not believe Thatcher would have dealt with this pandemic in the way Johnson has. He has been useless, lacking leadership and only interested in exercising power. Thatcher would not have closed down the country and would have demanded a better alternative.
But no doubt it was the Falklands factor that got her re-elected in 1983. Prior to the Falklands the Tories were making a complete town halls of the economy and were destined for an electoral hammering, so, all you Tories must be eternally grateful for General Galtieri! :o)
