Everyone knows the Lib Dems cannot win an election so people will vote for them knowing that it’s effectively voting for Labour.
But if enough people in the so-called Tory heartlands really do loathe or come to loathe Johnsonian Toryism more than Starmer then that might not matter

We've just had (19/8) an election for a local councillor (Tory heartland).
Results just in today are:-
Con. 1,190
Lab. 447
Yorkshire Party 347 (we voted for them)
Greens 142
Lib. Dems. 79
On that basis - they've got a bit of work to do and the Greens are being very successful in disguising the probable results of their policies.
