There is clearly a disparity (or a couple of centuries) between the way religious bodies act and the modern world. There needs to be robust criminal proceedings and appropriate convictions. Only then will they start to modify their behaviours.

Clearly the inquiry was needed - this is a very broad remit and it needs thorough investigation of all agencies involved not just Religious Organisations.

Quantifying the problem will not give an accurate result, I am sure. Abuse does not involve just the church of course. There have so many cases of teachers and outside groups, such as leisure activities, let alone family members or close friends.

History has shown us that as far as child abuse is concerned the victims might not come forward for many a year/decade if at all.

However, we should welcome all attempts to help the victims who are identified. We can but hope, TTT.

TTT - As advised by previous posters, no-one needs an Enquiry to establish abuse in religious organisations, but they do need an Enquiry to establish evidence to that legal redress can be sought.

Religion has always been about power, that's why it is always ruled and regulated by men, and men in power never use that power to give themselves less of anything, especially the right to do as they please.
