One "change" that probably escaped everyone was the the return of The Minister on Leave, Suella Braverman, who was on paid leave because the Govt brought in an Act of Parliament solely for her.

Her mate Boris didn't want her to resign, so they created the office of Minister on Leave. And now she's back! Nepotism in the extreme, I say!

Not being a fan of the govt, but I think it was well done to the PM for doing this.
She is now back in her post: that is normally what happens with maternity leave.

She's either the very best person in the world for the job and is completely irreplaceable or she has dirt on somebody very senior.

As the link explains, the money previously wasn't available to finance a minister on leave.

As the Act applies to any future Minister or Shadow Minister needing to take maternity leave, it is not specific only to one woman.

She was the first caninet minister ever to fall pregnant.
You can regard it as changing the law to suit the privileged few, or giving equal rights at work to caninet and opposition shadow ministers.
Bearing in mind these are short term appointments as a rule and hardly millionaire salaries.

Surely all it has done is bring Parliament into line with business practice. And are there any laws they may have been falling foul of by not doing this?

The species doesn't need maintaining. It is maintaining it - especially at its alarmingly high growth rate - that is the root cause of most of today's problems. There needs to be a concerted effort to reduce the population. Not the rate of growth, the actual numbers. So long as humans continue to proliferate in ridiculously high numbers the longer those problems will continue. Anything that can be done to make it more awkward or inconvenient for women to bear children can only be applauded.

Possibly not, Ikky. But it's part of a wider strategy which seems to be aimed at making having children as convenient as it possibly can be. That's the last thing this country needs and if there were people gluing themselves to the M25 to urge the government to make it more inconvenient and costly for women to bear children, I might even join them.
