Let's hope after he gets tapped on the shoulder, by the queen he doesn't say - '' thanks for that lady Thatcher ''

In short No ( I dislike answering just No, it’s rude)
He was sacked from his position and doesn’t deserve a gong
no, he was useless at his job
Definitely not.

Just to jump over the inevitable…

If someone wants to say with “If Lenny Henry can be knighted…”

I’ll respond with, “He’s raised millions of pounds for charity rather than being sacked from two Government departments and overseeing last year’s exams shambles”.

Speed things up…
Oh dear
well rodders got one so anything is possible!
Anyway, if Lenny Henry can be knighted, Alex Ferguson, Ian McKellen, Elton John etc...then who gives a shhh. I don't take them seriously and have a kind of 'meh' attitude to who does and doesn't get/deserve one.
It's for services to diversion, taking the heat off his former gaffer.

Meanwhile, back at Sesame Street...
Roy, why would you not take someone seriously because of their occupation? How strange. Having said that, I agree that the honours system is not something I give two hoots about. they could give one to Gully if they wanted and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest (after I stopped laughing).

But those you mention are all good at their respective jobs.

As a test, say this sentence out loud:

“Gavin Williamson was such a good Education Secretary that he deserves to be knighted”.

It’s like patting your head with one hand whilst rubbing your stomach with the other.

Not…easy…

I'll try that one after I return from the pub...it might make more sense.
Sorry, misconstrued your meaning. I read it as you not taking those people seriously, when you meant that you don't take the honours system seriously. My mistake, as you were.
I doubt anyone really deserves a knighthood, a bit unnecessary nowadays. No idea what he has to do with Lenny Henry?

Bazile…an obvious Best Answer there.

Thanks for the chuckle.
No-one should be knighted, 'made a Lord' nor 'receive' any title 'bestowed' by any 'Royal'.... that type of divisive, corruption and nepotism encouraging kowtowing should have gone when feudalism was eradicated.
Civic/civil awards, possibly award gifts as a reward.

Reminds me of the contrivance of 'the self-hating Jew" only as "the self-deprecating Public". Pavlov's dogs in deed.

Whilst I can see your point, if I we’re offered a title I probably wouldn’t turn it down.

Would you?
