I didn't vote for him to run the haulage companies. I don't want politicians of any persuasion running commercial enterprises. The lack of staff suffered by hauliers is because they have failed over many years (not just the last week) to ensure they have sufficient numbers of properly trained people. Expecting the government to take over that task now their failures have been exposed is a bit rich. For them to blame Brexit is disingenuous. They knew how many EU employees they had; they should have estimated how many of them might have decided to leave the country and taken steps to recruit replacements.
The one overriding responsibility the PM has is to stop using taxpayers' money to pay people to sit at home whilst businesses have so many vacancies, and to stop using that money to meet part of employers' pay bills (in the form of "Working Tax Credits") because they do not pay a realistic salary.
The one thing the Prime Minister can and must do is to get the staff of the DVLA back to work properly so that at least one problem - the delay in processing HGV licence applications - is removed.

22.27 Ynnafymmi, Boris is now saying that the fuel crisis is now almost over.
The Tv shows massive grid locked roads with queues at filling stations.
The fuel suppliers say they are desperately in need of tanker drivers.
Boris is telling porkies again,.... and as you say.
This is nothing at all to do with Brexit..... CHPMSL.

Having worked in the transport and warehouse industry for 45 years, I can tell you that driver shortage is nothing new. In 2016, the RHA said there was a shortage of 40,000 drivers. That was in the year that this country voted for Brexit (just sayin'). Since 2016, the figure has increased by 150%. Why has that happened? The industry has known about this for many years and it has been allowed to grow. Brexit and Covid didn't help, for sure, but this has been happening for many years. And nothing, I mean nothing, has been done about it. By anyone.
