you say i wonder why let e tell you its cus of covid got us locked up what else was there to do but have a shag
What about Brits who move to Spain, often not even speaking the language. They then live in purpose built communities full of mostly other brits. How is that different?
My SIL and her family came to the US from Cuba in the late 50s. Her dad, as a business man, settled quite easily. Her mum, a shy woman, never did and probably stayed very close to the Cuban community, not mixing with the outside. Her English was never very good either.
fao Emmie - there are no legal sellers of the Big Issue now.

See my post regarding that - search for Big Issue and you will read up on that.

PS - I received a copy by post from the Big Issue company.
What is the Biggest shoe?
JJ, that is wrong and I posted this on your thread.

They are back on the streets,

"Give your local vendor a hand up and buy the magazine.

As the UK high streets reopen The Big Issue vendors are back – use the map below to locate your local vendor and buy your latest issue of the magazine directly from them. If you are unable to reach your local vendor, you can still subscribe to receive the magazine through your door or device and support a vendor directly.

Wherever you see a yellow pin, 50% of net proceeds from your subscription will go direct to the vendor, providing much needed ongoing support."

// perhaps some will go back to their own countries //

You didn’t think that answer through, did you.
10.24 Gromit , No I don't think she did, as mentioned earlier on this post.
The Best Answer is incorrect though, the Big Issue vendors are more often Romani than Romanian.
You are correct pastafreak. Those brits in Spain are just as bad.
I saw a Big Issue seller for the first time yesterday. She's a disabled woman, not eastern European, and well known enough to have had an article written about her in the local paper.
In order to become a seller, homeless need to fulfill certain requirements...they also must purchase the copies that they sell, making a small profit for their own needs.
They are not beggars.
Pastafreak, what has Spain got to do with the UK or this thread? I happen to agree with you but its up to Spain to sort out, we cant do a thing about it in this country.
//just as well someone's producing the children who will be funding your pension.//

Utter garbage.

In the UK The top 50% of earners make up roughly 90% of income tax receipts. Around 27% of it is paid by 300,000.

A single worker on the minimum wage pays in around a pound a week in (income) tax. If he or she has a dependent partner they are likely instead to take nearly £90 a week from the taxpayer; if they have two children this increases to nearly £300 a week. There are also major costs in later life, for pensions and health, to which the low-paid will make no significant contribution.

Unless all these babies are going to be earning £160K each in which case I take back my comment.

Is it not the fact that the perceived lack of integration is not unique to this country or certain nationalities?
Think some on here are being very judgemental. I have a friend whose grandparents came from Pakistan many, many years ago to work in the jute trade. Her parents were both born here and so was she. They are all hard working folk who have never caused any problems. "Is it 'cause I's black?"
Some nationalities have and do integrate CORBY, in the UK I mean. So it is down to Nationalities. And yes I do agree many British dont integrate or bother with the language - and it annoys me too.

But thats another thread.
//Her parents were both born here and so was she.//

So totally different from what is being discussed then. I assume they speak English and are integrated - because they are British. Tends only to be a problem with older generations that first come from what I have seen.
Question Author
i was visiting cardiff the other week and saw a woman wearing a full burqa with about seven children walking with her as she was pushing a pram mmm, and husband wearing pyjamas walking in front of them.
a lot of child benefits possibly tax credits is he has a job? housing benefit, doctors schools etc etc, now thats what i call a drain, and not integration by the look of it.
This is a reply I got from the Big Issue representative

/////We don’t actually sell in any part of Ireland and never have. A publication called Ireland’s Big Issue (unrelated, based in Dublin) has sold the street paper in both north and south traditionally. We have heard that Ireland’s Big Issue are not selling a physical copy right now only digital.

It has been brought to our attention that some of our old stock is being sold in Belfast by people but it is not something we support.

I did have a conversation this week with PSNI which might be able to put a stop to this in some way but no one should buy anything from these individuals.

Many thanks for taking the time to write in. I’d be happy to have a copy of this week’s mag sent to you – send me your address and I’ll have one shipped out for an up to date read.////

Thanks again and best wishes
JJ, the e-mail reply you received applies only to Ulster and the ROI, not to Great Britain where they are being selt on the streets again.

I am responding only to correct the impression that anyone selling The Big Issue is doing so illegally.
So how much do the big issue sellers pay into any pension scheme?
start at zero and stop counting.
