i agree - no children should be allowed in the chamber when the real work of parliament is on - where does it stop? If your 12 year old has an inset day, are they gonna sit next to you playing on their nintendo switch while a debate is going on? Dont you have to have some sort of security vetting to be an MP and show ID get into the Hof P chamber?

The trouble is, Pat, that many parents believe nothing has to give and they are being encouraged in that belief by a wide range of opinions. They seem to believe they should carry on exactly as they did before having children. I have lost count of the number of episodes I have witnessed where children have been brought along by their parents to totally inappropriate places and events. Many a time my evening out in a nice restaurant has been ruined by unruly or noisy children. I don't go to McDonalds; I don't expect unruly children to be running around in a decent restaurant where I'm paying quite a bit to enjoy a good meal. A few years ago I even saw a baby-in-arms brought in to the Centre Court at Wimbledon. Needless to say it began crying but the mother only took the child out after it had disturbed play and was ordered out by a steward.

Some new parents seem to believe that the world revolves around them and their offspring. It doesn't.

When our first child was born we took the decision that we wanted her to be looked after by my wife during the day rather than palming her off to a stranger at a nursery at 7.30am to be picked up at 6pm, so my wife gave up work; my wife had a good job and this cut the household income by about 40% overnight - we had to make a lot of sacrifices for a number of years, and not small ones; for example we downsized, went down to one car, didn't have a holiday for years (OK, the latter two may be considered luxuries, but when you're used to them, it's a wrench).

Like NJ I don't go to restaurants that are child-friendly, so when I go out to restaurants I don't want screaming kids while their parents smile at them indulgently. I have absolutely zero interest in other peoples kids.

I have no issue in new mothers coming back to work, bloody good luck to them, but they should arrange it so there's little/no disruption to their work. A baby in the HofC is just nuts.

I too gave up work and we made many sacrifices. I took evening jobs to boost our meagre income. It was well worth it to bring up our child with secure foundations. His welfare was first priority. Those first years are so important. Nowadays people aren't prepared to change their lifestyle. I hear so many young people say they can't manage on one salary, but are running two cars and wanting perfect homes. Expectations are high these days!

Imagine if everyone took their babies and kids into the chamber and they all started bawling at the same time. I’m so Cross about this. She should put it into a crèche or child minders if she doesn’t want to look after it at home herself.
