Has the world gone completely mad and, supplemental, when did Americans become arbiters of taste, style and decent behaviour?

All water under the bridge now, Mozz.
//It's not "the Trans brigade" behind the proposed name change. It's other people virtue signalling.//

It's both, but it matters not who's saying it. The fact is people are being vilified for telling the truth. Here's another - Graham Linehan , the writer of Father Ted, who in response to someone else tweeted ' “men aren’t women tho”. His account has been suspended.

Model and trans activist Munroe Bergdorf tweeted: “Graham Linehan has been suspended from Twitter. Transphobia will not win.
“Thank you @twitter. Please make it permanent. Who next?!!!”

Clearly an activist on the warpath.

Additionally, three authors have left the literary agency they shared with JK Rowling.

Khandro, //This is such a trivial non-story..//

This ever-increasing attempt to stifle truth matters - or it should.
n. //This ever-increasing attempt to stifle truth matters - or it should.//

Agreed, but the very publication of this story by the BBC is not meant to stifle the truth, it is quite the opposite. It is there to draw attention to & support their stance of opposing JKR's sensibly held views.

Yet another reason for the BBC to be de-funded
That's contradictory, Khandro. By drawing attention to and supporting their stance the BBC is championing their determination to silence the truth.
DD: "JKR has stated 100% cast-iron undeniable facts - on what planet can it be "anti-trans" by stating facts? " - planet woke?
Mozz71: "Kardashev - You've never played Pooh Sticks then? " - no, but I wouldn't call it a sport. It does however make more sense that running round a field with a tent pole between one's legs.
12:32, no it isn't woke, it's as old-fashioned as you can get. Anything and anyone that supports women, is "anti-trans''. Which is... telling... as it isn't what they are saying.

What I find most astonishing is that there are supposedly ten teams in the uk that play it !
Most at public schools I would wager
It is clearly not a game for the oiks despite all the inclusion nonsense
// I saw this yesterday and just let it pass me by. Meh.//
you will never make it on AB
// It is clearly not a game for the oiks despite all the inclusion nonsense//
no - please- correct to

It is clearly not a game for the oiks and their prole parents despite all the inclusion nonsense

I learnt on university cackup last nightthat proletarian comes from the Latin for lower class that produce children
//Most at public schools I would wager //

I think you'd lose your bet.
In all honesty, and just covering the existence of Quidditch as an actual sport, if these people really cared about what JKR had said, they wouldn't try and change the name of the "sport", they simply STOP PLAYING IN. What they're doing is paying lip service to the Trans argument, without actually commiting to either side. Although I don't like the phrase "virtue signalling" (I think it's a lazy argument against people acting upon genuine beliefs) I think this is classic example of it.
when they called football soccer, to distinguish it from the real thing, I suppose. That's what sovereign nations can do.
I don't think virtue signallers act on genuine beliefs at all. They make what they think are the right noises. They pay lip service - nothing more.
//when they called football soccer, to distinguish it from the real thing, I suppose. That's what sovereign nations can do.//

In fairness, the word "soccer" has been around almost as long as the sport has. This time it was public schools that created it, as a shortening of "association football" in the same way they coined the word "rugger" for rugby. It wasn't coined to distance itself from it's creator, just a shortening.

Why ? I reckon there is more chance that quidditch is played on the fields of Eton than an Ealing comprehensive ! Lol
I love pooh-stick played it in the brief heatwave we had with my Niece's, I'm really competitive. Reading that bit kept me interested in reading the thread.
Naomi 13:48- I agree, which is why I think the term is misused frequently- to describe anyone with "woke" beliefs, whether they are genuine or not. In the case of the quidditch teams, the term is completely appropriate.
Eton is a Public school. I think Naomi was referring to public schools not state schools.
No chance of either. I would imagine university students might do something that daft, but I doubt any educational establishment would do it.
