Over the last 30 years we should have been building Nuclear power stations and optimising our fossil fuel legacy, instead we listen to teenage brats. We account for a tiny proportion of emissions. China are building 200 coal power stations a year yet we have an army of eco idiots and even more stupidly the governments of all shades over the last 30 years have listened to them. Ladies and gentlemen we are over a barrel and the sad thing is we put ourselves there. I'm amazed it's only 50%.
//In fact the way we live is very green.//
Not with a wood burner you are not. Dont get me wrong I actually dont care as I dont buy into the green rubbish. But dont kid yourself you are better than someone burning clean gas. Burning wood is not good and just because you live in the country doesnt mean you pollute less. In fact you probably also have to drive everywhere as there are rarely buses. Got a nice 4x4 by any chance?

An old 4 X 4 yes. Bought for me because I'm disabled Usage negligible!! I have never kidded myself we are better than people burning gas. We don't have any access to gas. We are just ordinary people without a lot of money that chose to live a cleaner life in the country when we were younger. I think we understand a lot about woodburning. I can assure you that done properly in the right areas it is fine.
And I can assure you we didn't drive nice 4x4s ever, or in fact new cars. Just because we live in the country doesn't make us part of that brigade. Get your facts rights. Yes I'm pleased that I can keep warm cheaply. I wish others could!

Elder daughter has an air exchange thingy - I'm never warm at her house and OH and I are often happy to leave in Winter and warm up in the car on the drive home. They do have a small stove, unused most of the year, but it comes into its own in very cold weather.
There is no gas in our village, so most people are on oil-fired boilers, but there are quite a few on wood heating (pellets), one or 2 have bottled gas. All this green initiative may be well enough for young people, but it's a killer for the old. Our house is very well insulated and as economical as it can be. We need to get fracking - using the experience of others to do it safely.
Asked the coal-man about his source for coal when he was delivering the other day (not to me, we don't have a fire or a stove, which is a worry) and he says most of it now comes from Russia! This seems to be lunacy to me. We have it and could dig it up, but are not allowed, so it is dug up elsewhere and then all the miles of travelling are added to its polluting effect. Barmy!
If heating does get as expensive as they think, then a lot of oldies will not be able to afford it and so will clog up the hospitals with chest ailments, hypothermia and other conditions. Well, it'll save on paying the pensions if they die, I suppose.

Lottie, we have to drive down lanes, where if we meet something coming the other way, we have to drive up banks and perch at precarious angles until the way is clear. These townies don’t know they’re born! Street lights, mains drainage, no power cuts, public trabsport? What’s that?
Yet you choose to live there ! Lol
