Given the margin by which he won as a Tory and what happened in North Staffs recently the last thing the Conservatives need right now is an indicator of current public opinion as this would undoubtedly prove

And I admit to voting Conservative at the last election because there was no other party I would even consider,which meant voting for a rubbish, lazy old man who has now retired. I haven't regretted it - I still feel the same.

SB it would test the voters in that situation, Ie would they vote Labour knowing that he's a turncoat Tory? Would Labour even have him as the candidate? If the mood is to get a real Labour MP back then surely they'd put up one of their own in his place. This may of course still play out in 2024.

What happened in North Staffs and the margin by which the Bury seat was won

If hypothetically there was a by election it would have to be with a Labour candidate other than Whitaker I feel

SB:well not unless Wakeford steps down and triggers it. he wont do that because the whole purpose here is to keep his seat. All the red wallers are vulnerable, they have a decent salary and want to keep it. Wakeford clearly believes that crossing the floor is the best way to do that. Though voters can often sense when they are being played and do something unexpected. Ask Kinnochio 1992.

whether by election now or GE in 2024 the Labour party do not have to accept him as their candidate though given a couple of years he has time to cement his credentials as a labour man. Internally the party will be wrestling with this.

Yes there is the obvious resentment at having crossed the floor and him standing as a Labour candidate would provoke some ire
But as you say as he is the elected MP for that constituency he would have to step down and I am not sure that has ever happened before in this instance ?
If he did and Labour went with their last candidate I have no doubt they would take it

Nonsense. It would prove nothing of the sort. The Conservatives won the seat by a narrow margin. It was Labour for years before that so if a Labour candidate won a by-election there it would come as no surprise. That man would never have the job if it hadn't been for Boris and as an elected Conservative MP he has no business sitting on the Labour benches now. He should put his money where his mouth is and chance his luck.

The problem we have is a bumbling and very foolish looking PM with a propensity for idiocy and lying in equal measure who has questionable morals
Combine that with a rather weak looking opposition
You have a recipe that is creating a political void that is irking the public and leaving the electorate with no clear governmental future
We are sadly lacking strong and stoic leadership in a crisis

I know you live Boris but do you sincerely believe him to be a competent and honest PM
You consider him to have the gravitas and respect with which to lead the country after the last 6 weeks ?
Even the conservatives know that he cannot and must not be head of the party before the next GE
They all pretty much agree he has to be gone in the next 12 months
But the current furore is badly damaging the party so they do not know whether to stick or twist
It is a farcical mess all of Boris’s own making
